Important Things to Know About Pressure Washing a House
Cleaning the exterior of your house isn’t easy. We climb up ladders and perform a balancing act so that you can get to those hard-to-reach places, like the gutters and downpipes. You look at the roof and realise that there is no way that you will be able to drag a bucket with water and detergent up there. The solution – invest in a high pressure washer. Not only will you be able to clean in those hard-to-reach places, but it will make your home look as good as new at a fraction of the cost that it would be to repaint it.
What a high pressure washer does is produce a very strong stream of water that blasts away dirt and dust. The water can also be mixed with detergents to increase its cleaning power. There are a few things that you need to know before going ahead as this is a powerful machine and needs to be used correctly in order to produce the desired results.
Electric or Petrol Pumps
A high pressure washer works by using a pump to increase the pressure of water flowing through the attached hose. The pump can be powered by petrol or electricity.
Petrol-powered high pressure washers typically produce a higher range of PSI (pounds per square inch) levels than electric ones. This means that surfaces can be cleaned quicker, and it is mobile, which means that you are not restricted to a power outlet.
Electric-powered high pressure washers are lower maintenance as you do not need to change the oil like you would have to with petrol pumps. As they do not produce harmful emissions, they can be used indoors. Not being portable means that you would be restricted to specific areas of use if there are no electrical outlets nearby.
There are pros and cons to using an electric or petrol high pressure washer. Do proper research before deciding on which type of pump to purchase by contacting us for expert advice.
Surfaces and Spray Nozzles
The surface and type of spray nozzle go hand-in-hand when cleaning the exterior of the house. There are a variety of spray nozzles that come with your high pressure washer and you need to make sure that you choose the correct one. If the surface that you are cleaning is painted or wooden, it is best to use the white nozzle as it produces a wider spray, 40 degrees, at just the right PSI. If a deeper clean is needed, then you can use the black nozzle as your detergent spray as it produces a very fine spray angle of 65 degrees. This is ideal when cleaning out gutters that are clogged with mud and debris.
Moss and algae build-up on a roof can be very unsightly and is not the easiest to take off roof shingles. Dependent on the age of the roof, you would need to use a high pressure washer with a white nozzle as this will gently remove the dirt without causing permanent damage to the shingles. The same can be said about corrugated iron roofing.
